Biogas is used in many places nearby. Landeli Group uses biogas in its factory.

–In the Huittinen factory, we use biogas to make process steam, which is used in our maturation oven. Additionally, our property and the water we use is now heated up with biogas, says Joonas Suomela, maintenance and service manager of Landeli Group, which manufactures Korpela meat products, among other things.

Landeli replaced fuel oil with biogas in the end of 2022.

–We don’t use any fuel oil now, thanks to biogas. Our production is now more ecological and affordable, Suomela says.

Landeli currently buys biogas from Gasum Oy, which delivers the gas to the factory in containers. Still, they would be interested in a new biogas plant.

Pig farmer Juho Riuttamäki states that he is interested in becoming a customer for a new biogas plant, if one ends up being started.

–Pigs consume a lot of energy, and this would be one option. In these two piggeries of mine located next to the Turku road, about 1.3 megawatt hours are consumed every year, he calculates.

However, the active customer relationship with Gasum is coming to an end.

–Gasum terminated the contract without any explanation. Now, in the spring, the manure is spread onto our own and neighboring fields instead of the biogas plant. We now use oil and electricity, Riuttamäki states.

A contract with a new biogas plant would be of interest to the pig farmer.

–Thanks to the power plant, there was always plenty of heat in the piggery.

Riuttamäki has a clear vision in his head for the location of the new power plant, if one was to be built.

–Here alongside the Turku road would be a good place for it. There’s plenty of raw material available and I’d be ready to rent or sell land for the power plant. There’s land owned by the city here, too. The zoning is also in order for exactly this type of project, and there would be no odor problems next to any residential area.
